Fish and fishery products play a critical role in global food security and the nutritional needs of people around the world. Global supply of fish has grown steadily in the last five decades, however, in recent years, supply has been more variable, mostly as a result of disease-related problems caused by pathogenic microorganisms.

The project aims to find new ways to control diseases in farmed fish by identification and characterization of key proteins potentially involved in the infection process. The knowledge gained will also be used for disease control strategies by developing new anti-oomycete drugs.

The tasks associated with the position include developing and analyzing high qualitative research and meeting aims of the project. The project involves research communication with other collaborative members of the groups in Sweden (Sweden scholarships) and abroad. The candidate is also expected to participate in collaborative writing of high-impact papers summarizing the results achieved.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a subject relevant for the research, such as cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry (biochemistry scholarships) or microbiology. The doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree should have been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.

We would like the candidate to be autonomous, be able to take initiatives and have a personal and professional maturity. Additionally, we would like the candidate to have good communication skills and to have the ability to cooperate, as well as having a strong analytical and problem solving ability.
