PhD Studentship Design The Next Generation of Electromagnetic Sensing Technologies

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in composite materials at The University of Nottingham, UK. This position is closed on April 24, 2019.

Applications are invited for a3-year PhD studentship at the University of Nottinghamto address key challenges in manufacturing engineering. The project will seek to develop a novel electromagnetic sensing system to detect defects in situ in complex composite materials. This will involve the design and implementation of novel smart sensors, high-speed inspection tool underpinned by machine learning capability.

The successful candidate will be based in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK. We are seeking an applicant to start on this exciting project in August/September 2019.

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, having state-of-the-art, purpose built facilities, offers an excellent environment for the realisation of high-impact research projects.

This is an exciting PhD project that has a combination of academic and industrial challenges, which will enhance the student's ability to tackle complex intellectual and practical aspects of electric engineering, manufacturing and materials science.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a novel electromagnetic sensing system with strong links to industrial applications and key skills and knowledge in preparation for a high-impact, high-technology research or industrial career.

The studentship covers both tuition fees and a tax-free stipend at RCUK rates (up to 16,777 a year) for EU and UK candidates. Applications from international students are also welcome, however, applicants will be required to cover shortfall in fees from personal resources.

Applications with a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and academic transcript should be sent to Dr Juliano Katrib, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham, Email:, Tel: 011595 14104

This studentship is open until filled. Early application is strongly encouraged.
