PhD Scholarship in Spatio-temporal Immunological Characterization of Relevance in Life-style Related Diseases

Technical University of Denmark, Denmark is inviting applicants to apply for a PhD position in sustainable development. The funds for this position are available for 3 years. The deadline for applying is July 25, 2020.

A 3-year PhD position is available in the Disease Systems Immunology Group at DTU Bioengineering with specific focus on development of a method using advanced single cell technologies to enable identification of early changes in the memory-based adaptive immune reservoir of relevance for disease development and tracking. The research in the Disease Systems Immunology group encompasses wet and dry lab studies on the interplay between early environmental factors, the microbiome and the immune response in relation to disease development throughout life.

We are looking for a super talented colleague who can carry out an independent PhD project, and holds the ambition and commitment to achieve excellence in an environment of a highly qualified team of dedicated postdocs, PhD students and technical personnel. The project involves collaborations with external research groups of high international standards involved in the CAG-Loginflam (https://gchsp.dk/cag/cag-greater-copenhagen-research-centre-for-systemic-low-grade-inflammation-cag-loginflam/).

The main task of the PhD candidate will be to develop a method to identify the nature of circulating T and B cells based on their genomic imprint, and to couple this to development of selected low-grade inflammatory diseases. In addition, the PhD is expected to take active part in development of bioinformatics (fully funded bioinformatics scholarships) methods and infrastructure for analysing the extensive data portfolio being generated as part of the project. Candidates should have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree. Specific qualifications: Experience with bioinformatics analysis, cellular handling, and well-trained in immunology. Have good communication skills, excellent command of English (written and spoken), be very collaborative, self-motivated and able to organize your tasks.
