The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a Research Associate in Biosensing who would work on the development of nanostructured materials and surfaces for applications in biosensing of disease biomarkers taking a multidisciplinary approach in materials science. The post-holder will design and fabricate innovative biomaterials to expand our portfolio and will apply advanced characterisation techniques to understand a variety of factors that define the bio-material interactions. The post-holder will be active within a vibrant and multidisciplinary environment comprising multiple projects. This post will liaise closely with researchers trained in a wide array of faculties, including nanomaterials, engineering, as well as biology (with focus areas in drug delivery, tissue engineering and diagnostics).

The Research Associate in Biosensing will design nanomaterials for biomolecular detection that output quantitative signals in presence of biomarker targets. They will use chemical biology approaches, DNA/RNA molecular biology (molecular biology scholarships) techniques and micro-/nanofabrication strategies to develop functionalised biosensing platforms. The post holder will establish versatile characterisation protocols that can be translated to a variety of applications and will undertake the associated data analysis and interpretation.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 35,477- 38,566 per annum.
