Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) is a world-class teaching department for the many forensic-related disciplines at the University, such as archaeology, ballistics, engineering failures, explosives and materials science. Our superb facilities and excellent industry links provide students with highly-desired standards of education and research, making CFI unique within the postgraduate education sector. Our unique relationship with the UK Ministry of Defence allows access to a range of facilities not found in any comparable academic institution. Students have access to our purpose-built outdoor research forensic fieldwork facility, which has been specifically designed to enable research into animal decomposition, taphonomy and excavation of buried remains. We also have unique microscopy services and facilities, as well as analytical and biomechanics laboratories. Four of our five MSc courses have been formally accredited by the internationally renowned Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, under the following Component Standards: Interpretation, Evaluation and Presentation of Evidence, Laboratory Analysis and Crime Scene Investigations.

Your place will still be secured based on the offer and acceptance of your original application. You may want to seek alternative sources of funding. For further funding opportunities please check your course page or see our Fees and Funding page.

Firstly, you need to hold an offer of study in one of the eligible courses (listed above), have accepted your offer and paid the deposit to secure your place. We then ask for a separate Justification for Support document of about 2,500 words in PDF format to be submitted via the website by the deadline of midnight on the Thursday 30 June 2020.

Beyond having top academic achievement, we are looking for evidence of excellence potential. We want to understand your vision of the future. We look for justification on why your study is good for your future plans. Most importantly, we want you to demonstrate your communication ability. The Justification for Support should not be a tick box set of answers. We are looking for an expression of personality and why you would excel on the Forensic Master's Programme, and why Cranfield is your first choice of university to study the particular forensic MSc course you have applied for.

After the submission deadline, we will have a shortlist evaluation. Applicants who pass the shortlist stage will be invited to a telephone or Skype interview in July. The panel evaluate the performance of the candidate and make the final decision.
