PhD Scholarship in Work Science at University of Gothenburg

A new PhD position in sustainable development is available at University of Gothenburg. The funds for this fellowship are available for four years. Candidates are welcome before June 09, 2020.

The Center for Global HRM (CGHRM) is Sweden (Sweden scholarships) and the Nordic region’s first center for HRM (Human Resource Management). CGHRM is a knowledge center and meeting place for academics and professionals within HRM with objectives such as strengthening Swedish HRM research locally, nationally and globally, being a knowledge bank on issues related to HRM, initiating, developing and conducting research in the area in dialogue and collaboration. with business and the public sector and through the utilization of research promote a balanced and sustainable development (sustainable development scholarships) of working life locally, nationally and globally.

CGHRM is a collaboration between the Department of Business Economics and the Department of Sociology and Work Science at the University of Gothenburg, and has 14 organizations from business and public activities as members.

The doctoral position is advertised as part of the research project How can HR functions contribute to change, innovation and change? The project, which is funded by the Swedish Transport Administration, will investigate how HR functions can contribute to change, innovation and transition by following HR work in more extensive business development and infrastructure projects.

The accepted doctoral student will write a doctoral dissertation that contributes to answering the overall research question in collaboration with supervisors and representatives from the Swedish Transport Administration’s HR function. The doctoral student will investigate how the HR function contributes to organizational development and probably work on a change towards Agenda 2030 and any other goals in the Swedish Transport Administration’s assignment from the government. The work mainly concerns a qualitative methodology but quantitative research work may also be relevant.

The aim of the doctoral studentship is for the doctoral student to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to conduct research autonomously within sociology (sociology scholarships) or sociology with a specialization towards science and technology studies and to contribute to the development of knowledge within the discipline through the production of a scholarly thesis. Another aim for the doctoral student is to develop an ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills within post-degree research or other professional work.

Anyone who is employed as a doctoral student should primarily devote themselves to their postgraduate education. However, a doctoral student may, to a limited extent, work with education, research and administration. Such work must not exceed 20 per cent of full working time before the doctorate is awarded.

In selecting the applicants, the applicants’ skills in independent work, experience of project work, as well as the ability to critically think and collaborate will also be assessed.

-Papers, degree projects and other relevant works (maximum four works), which will be assessed on in terms of ability to formulate scientific problem and purpose, previous research and choice of theoretical perspective, methodology and implementation, theory integration, interpretation and conclusions as well as academic and linguistic presentation.

-A project draft, maximum 2000 words, in which the applicant present their research interest in relation to the stated assignments, discusses previous research and theories of relevance for the area, and outlines how the research questions can be answered. The project draft will be assessed on scientific relevance, demonstrated familiarity with previous and current research as well as feasibility within the framework of the PhD-education.

Upon admission to postgraduate education, you will be employed as a doctoral student. Regulations for employment as a doctoral student can be found in Regulation SFS 1993: 100. The first employment as a doctoral student may apply for a maximum of one year. The employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. A person may be employed as a doctoral student for a maximum of eight years. However, the total period of employment may not exceed the equivalent of full-time postgraduate education for four years.
