Research Fellow Nihr Realist Synthesis at University of Surrey

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position in medical sciences at University of Surrey. There is no application deadline for this position.

The Workforce Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) Research Group in the School of Health Sciences is seeking a Research Fellow to work on an NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research funded project to minimise the incidence of mental ill-health in nurses, midwives and paramedics. The study design is a realist review of the evidence. Working with Professor Jill Maben and Dr Cath Taylor at the University of Surrey and supported by colleagues at the University of Exeter, this is an excellent opportunity for a health services researcher or social scientist with realist synthesis experience to work within an experienced national team. The project aims to improve the mental health of nurses, midwives and paramedics and understand when and why nurses, midwives, and paramedics develop mental ill-health at work; find which strategies to reduce mental ill-health work best for these staff groups and design and develop resources for NHS managers/leaders so that they can understand what they can do to improve their mental health in the workplace. The researcher will be responsible for undertaking the realist synthesis review (with support) work with the rest of the research team; searching and extracting data and writing up the synthesis and producing the research outputs with the support of the research team.

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with excellent project management and skills to lead this literature review (preferably with skills in realist synthesis, although training will be provided). They will also need excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently but also create and nurture a remote team culture. The successful candidate will be individually responsible for undertaking the data extraction and synthesis and supporting the write up of the final report and the production of various dissemination materials with other members of the team.

In addition to salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement and excellent development opportunities. Benefits package includes salary, relocation (subject to meeting certain criteria), childcare assistance and discounted membership to our world-renowned Surrey Sports Park.
