You will join the Firedrake core development team as the research software engineer on the project Gen X: ExCALIBUR working group on Exascale continuum mechanics through code generation. This project is a part of the wider UK (UK scholarships) effort to create simulation software capable of exploiting exascale supercomputers.

The core responsibilities of this role are to demonstrate the scaling capabilities of the Firedrake code generation approach by designing and conducting a series of numerical experiments on the Isambard, ARCHER, and ARCHER2 supercomputers which demonstrate the capability of coupled ensembles of Firedrake simulations to achieve multiple petaflop performance. A key function of the role will be to conduct and publish comprehensive performance analyses of the Firedrake toolchain to inform future developments, in particular those that might be undertaken in phase 2 of the ExCALIBUR project.
