The University of Michigan, Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking candidates for a Research Associate Professor position in the Division of Rheumatology to conduct research on stromal cell signaling in scleroderma. The successful candidate will be responsible for his or her own research project as well as collaborative research activities. The candidate will plan and execute experiments, analyze and summarize research data, synthesize conclusions, present research findings at local and national scientific meetings, publish research findings in appropriate peer-reviewed scientific journals, and be involved in the preparation of grant applications. The candidate will develop and execute research protocols in consultation with other faculty, and supervise or be involved in the training of students and technical personnel in a laboratory setting.

Applicants should hold a PhD in the field of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related, and have 10 or more years of training and experience beyond their PhD. A history of extramural funding as a PI is required. Skill and experience in biochemical techniques, model systems for scleroderma, and bioinformatics is required. Evidence of scholarly ability (publications in competitive peer-reviewed journals, including first-author papers) is also a pre-requisite. The candidate should be able to carry out research tasks independently, yet collaborate effectively with other research staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must have experience mentoring students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty, as well as a record of institutional and extramural service.
