Postdoc in Waste Management and Resource Circulation at Technical University of Denmark

Technical University of Denmark is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoctoral fellowship position in sustainable development. The funds for this fellowship are available for 2 years. The deadline for applying is April 10, 2020.

DTU Environment, Section for Residual Resource Engineering, seeks one or more post docs in relation to evaluation of resource recovery and circular solutions involving residual resources such as waste from households, industry, agriculture and commercial activities. The research area involves focus on a wide range of aspects related to recycling, utilizing and managing residual resources, such as waste material characterization, assessment of resource quality, material flows in society, assessment of integrated technologies and resource systems, including material flow analysis, life cycle assessment and costing of associated systems. The intention is to provide the necessary platform for society to reach a more sustainable approach to resource consumption and recycling.

The postdoc(s) will contribute to a range of research and scientific advice projects within the area. The responsibilities may involve sampling and physico-chemical characterisation of residues and waste materials, environmental life cycle assessment and life cycle costing, development and evaluation of recycling indicators, material flow assessment at national and European scales, including assessment of both individual technologies as well as entire systems. Contribution to a range of externally funded projects is expected and activities may be adjusted according to the needs in these projects.

Candidates should have a PhD degree within environmental engineering or equivalent. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate hands-on experiences with a) life cycle assessment via the LCA model EASETECH, b) material flow analysis, and preferably c) sampling and characterisation of solid waste materials. Communication in Danish is considered a plus as the activities involve close interaction with Danish partners.
