Research Assistant in Biochemistry at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge is delighted to offer a postdoctoral scholar position in molecular biology. The funding allows successful candidate to work for 5 years. This position is closed on March 26, 2020.

The IMAXT laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (part of the University of Cambridge) is seeking to hire a Research Assistant for the development of a novel in situ transcriptomic technology.

The IMAXT project is a large international consortium that employs cutting-edge technologies to produce 3D models of breast cancer in which the position of each cell is annotated along with its genetic and expression profile (see http://www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/research-groups/imaxt for a more detailed description of the project). The successful applicants will support the realisation of this project contributing to the development of a novel in-situ transcriptomic technology that might eventually be incorporated in the project. In-situ transcriptomics is a process by which the gene expression of each cell or compartment of a tissue is captured in space, producing gene expression atlases for many genes at the same time. In the last 5 years, many methods have been developed to achieve this ambitious goal, largely based on spatially barcoded sequencing (i.e. slideSeq) or multiplexed fluorescence in situ hybridization (i.e. merFISH). Our group is trying to develop improvements to these methods and to apply them at scale for tumour biology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent individual with excellent laboratory skills in molecular biology and/or biochemistry. Previous experience in technology development previous experience in technology development, either in the academic or in the biotech sector is highly preferable. The successful candidates should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Applicants should have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
