Researcher Position in Accelerator Physics at Uppsala University

Uppsala University is delighted to offer a postdoctoral fellowship position in optics. Applications should be sent before January 02, 2020.

Work Description:Design of the accumulator, in particular, the beam injection and collimation system. The task will be, through numerical simulations and calculations, to study the injection schemes to minimize the injection beam loss and to design the collimation system with high efficiency to localize the controlled beam loss. In addition, contribution to other parts of the project is expected, for example to development of a transfer line and of the system for fast extraction from the ring. Regular presentations of the different development steps will be necessary, in the presence of specialists on the different topics, in Uppsala and at other laboratories.

Prerequisites:The applicant must at the start of employment have passed a doctoral examination, in physics or a related area, and have experience in accelerator physics and of beam dynamics of proton synchrotrons. Excellent capabilities to perform research shall be demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or at important conferences in the accelerator domain. Solid knowledge of particle tracking and beam optics codes is a requirement. We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in academic research and an interest to collaborate and exchange competences with other accelerator physics centers in Europe and who is willing to travel for that. Good oral and written proficiency in English is required, as well as the capacity to work both independently and in a team. The candidate shall take responsibility for the project, possibly assist in student supervision and education, be innovative and have a genuine interest in physics and technology.
