Research Assistant at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge has an opening postdoc position in high energy. The funding allows successful candidates to work for 2 years in the first instance. The deadline for applying is January 14, 2020.

The High Energy Physics Research Group of the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, invites applications for a Research Associate/Assistant to join our team developing state-of-the-art neutrino reconstruction software for the protoDUNE and DUNE experiments, designed to answer the most pressing questions in the field of neutrino oscillation research. This is an exciting opportunity to make important contributions to the development of automatic reconstruction software and analysis, which is critical for the liquid argon TPC neutrino programme. The research will focus on the DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment) long baseline Neutrino Oscillation Experiment (Fermilab USA) and the protoDUNE experiment at CERN. The Research Associate will also participate in the MicroBooNE short baseline Neutrino experiment, currently taking data at Fermilab. The successful candidate will have a PhD in experimental physics, extensive experience in software development and design for large-scale high-energy physics experiments, extensive experience with hardware and/or detector operations in a HEP environment, a good understanding of data analysis techniques, including Monte Carlo techniques and statistical analysis and experience in neutrino physics experiments.

Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD (in which case appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded). The research assistant salary (grade 5) falls within the range 26,715 to 30,942. The research associate (grade 7) salary falls within the range 32,816 to 40,322.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance with the possibility of future extensions
