Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Ghent

Applications are invited for a postdoc position in spectroscopy to join University of Ghent. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 06, 2020.

The Department of Materials, Textiles and Chemical engineering is looking for a post-doctoral scientific researcher in the area of chemical looping, chemical reaction kinetics and reactors. Contract: starting in March 2020 with occupancy rate 100%

SUMMARY The main goal for the MOONSHOT "Later Stage Innovation projects": This project will focus on the development of super-dry reforming towards large scale CO2 and bio-methane utilization with economical potential: efficient production of renewable CO being a potential key platform chemical.

The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) at Ghent University is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in chemical looping, material synthesis, chemical reaction kinetics and reactors. As a large gap exists between laboratory catalysts/materials and the corresponding industrial solids, it is easy to understand the enormous importance of material manufacturing development from bench to pilot scale. Spray drying, a technique capable of producing materials on a kg scale will be used for all material synthesis. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized materials will be determined with characterization techniques, with particular regard to gas sorption, Mssbauer spectroscopy and in situ X-ray diffraction and Elemental Analysis (e.g. ICP-MS). Oxygen storage capacity and CO2 sorption capacity as well as stability under cyclic operation of carbonation/decarbonation will be determined by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). In the present project, we will use fixed-bed reactors for the SDR process. A multi-reactor configuration is proposed for continuous steady-state production of CO by super-dry reforming of CH4 with inherent separation of H2O from CO/CO2. The pilot setup will provide data for simulations and further process development. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral for scientific publications and training/coaching/teaching of students are also required.

Candidates are invited to apply by submitting two types of documents by e-mail to Prof. Vladimir Galvita (Vladimir. Galvita@UGent.

On the basis of these documents, candidates will be selected for an interview (if necessary, interviews can be held via Skype if the applicants live abroad).
