Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Protein Design

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in environmental sciences to join Lund University. This position is available for 2 years. The deadline for applying is January 23, 2020.

The Faculty of Science conducts research and education within Biology, Astronomy, Physics, Geosciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Environmental Sciences. The Faculty is organized into nine departments, gathered in the northern campus area. The Faculty has approximately 1500 students, 330 PhD students and 700 employees.

The researcher should work on developing computational methods to design higher order protein assemblies such as protein capsids. The position is within an ERC project where the goal is to develop computational and experimental methods for de novo design of large protein assemblies using a geometric shape-based protein design paradigm. This is an opportunity to work with and learn state of the art computational protein design.

The researcher will be tasked in computational method development for structure-based computational protein design. Custom-made programs will be developed for adapting geometric shape matching approaches to protein design and design algorithms will be developed in the Rosetta macromolecular modeling suite. The researcher will also work with the experimental members of the team that will be involved in experimental testing of computationally designed proteins. This may involve some assistance with supervision of PhD and master students.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement "Avtal om tidsbegrnsad anstllning som postdoktor" ("Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow") between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
