Postdoc Position/senior Postdoc Position in Sustainable Consumption

University of Cambridge, UK is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoctoral position in human resources. The funds for this position are available for 3 years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before January 19, 2020.

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is seeking to appoint a Fellow in sustainable consumption under The Prince of Wales Global Sustainability Fellowship Programme. Funding for the Fellowship has been secured through a philanthropic donation from Sainsbury’s Supermarkets LtD, but stewardship of the Programme lies with CISL.

The successful candidate will be part of our exciting new Fellowship Programme, aiming to unlock the potential of the University to partner with business, government and finance institutions on real-world challenges and opportunities that must be addressed in order to build a sustainable economy. The ambition is to foster new transdisciplinary thinking on sustainability, leading to practical insights, tools and recommendations for decision-makers to carry into their organisations alongside important advances in fundamental knowledge.

Supermarkets are in a period of reinvention as they seek to differentiate from online shopping by providing customers with uniquely physical experiences. The Fellow will conduct high-impact research focussing on the role of retailers in empowering consumers and connecting them to solutions that enable sustainable consumption. Strategies include appropriation of local identities, produce, culture and crafts, and establishing environmentally and socially aware supply chains and work environments. CISL encourages senior and early career researchers to apply and will appoint a Fellow at the appropriate grade for a period of three years. Applications are welcome from highly regarded researchers from any relevant discipline with a strong academic record and interest in conducting research in business, policy or civil-society contexts.

This post is full-time or part-time (minimum 80% FTE), and CISL is open to secondments or similar arrangements which accommodate existing commitments. From late 2020 the Programme will be based at CISL’s new premises; a low carbon retrofitted building in the centre of Cambridge, which will serve as a vibrant atmosphere for collaborative research.
