Postdoc Position in Conversion of Forest-based Materials

Chalmers University of Technology has an opening PhD position in nanotechnology. The funds for this fellowship are available for three years. Candidates are welcome before January 31, 2020.

Information about the division

This position would be located at the Chemical Engineering division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department. The Division of Chemical Engineering includes two units: Chemical Reaction and Process Engineering; Forest Products and Chemical Engineering. We have a wide range of experience and work both experimentally and with modeling. We have a long tradition of working with both fundamental scientific questions and applied problems together with industry. This position is within the unit for Chemical Reaction and Process Engineering.

Information about the project and major responsibilities

Focus of this research project is to obtain a mechanistic understanding of light-triggered reactions in forestry waste materials to produce bio-based materials and chemicals. The project will be carrried out in close collaboration with Sdra and Perstorp.

The research will involve the use of photoreactor and the characterization of wood-based materials and formed products. Experimental measurements will be carried out in laboratory scale and in favourable cases even in situ. In summary, the position will map the wavelength-reaction relationship to generate a knowledge base required to enable an efficient conversion of forest-based waste products to bio-based chemicals and fuels.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master’s levels as well as supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Full-time position for 13 months.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in chemistry or chemical engineering; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
