PhD Studentship in Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics Development of The Next Generation of Silent Aerospace Propulsion Configurations

We are seeking applications from highly motivated, enthusiastic candidates for a PhD position to start as early as possible. This 3-year PhD studentship will cover tuition fees and an EPSRC standard tax-free stipend. Only EU and UK applicants may apply for this scholarship. The successful applicant will be situated in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nottingham (UK).

This advert will remain open until the position is filled, however applicants will be interviewed/employed at a first come-first serve basis and are therefore encouraged to submit their interest as soon as possible.

The project aims to investigate the aerodynamics and aeroacoustics in the next generation of distributed propulsion configurations, e.g. distributed propellers along the wing. The candidate will develop novel algorithms and perform large-scale simulations on the state-of-the-art high performance computing facilities. The project involves collaborations with several partners both nationally and internationally including wind tunnel experimentalists with whom the candidate will interact regularly for e.g. algorithm/code validation, results interpretation, etc. It will provide the student an attractive training environment via affiliates within the research institutes and doctoral training centres hosted by the Engineering Faculty at Nottingham University. The collaborative and multidisciplinary nature of the project will improve the employability of the candidate and enhance career prospects in both Academia and in Industry.

The ideal candidate will hold (or expect to hold) a master degree in engineering, applied mathematics, physics or equivalent. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work independently and in collaboration with other group members.
