PhD Scholarship in Planar Integrated Algaas-on-insulator Circuits for On-chip Quantum Information Processing

Technical University of Denmark, Denmark has an opening PhD position in sustainable development. This position is available for 3 years. Candidates are welcome before January 25, 2020.

The Nanophotonic Devices Group at DTU Fotonik is seeking a PhD candidate for design and fabrication of low-loss y-integrated on-chip quantum information processing. The preferred start date for this 3-year position is the 15th of April, 2020.

The position is offered within the framework of the H2020 MSCA Innovative Training Network "Quantum Dots for Photonic Quantum Information Technologies (QUDOT-TECH)" which will employ a total of 15 PhD students in five countries working in close collaboration on optical quantum information technologies (please see http://www.qudot-tech.eu/ for more information about the network). You will participate in an international QUDOT-TECH project team, which will design and fabricate a fully integrated platform for optical quantum information processing including generation, manipulation and detection of single photons. For scalable optical quantum information processing, a near-unity efficiency, deterministic single-photon source is required. A promising platform for such a source is a QD embedded in a semiconductor material (AlGaAs), where planar waveguide circuits can be constructed on-chip. Your overall responsibilities include, but not limited to, the design and fabrication of low-loss integrated AlGaAs-on-insulator waveguide components with QDs embedded in. You will be expected to The majority of the fabrication work will be performed in the DTU Nanolab cleanroom while there will also be joint efforts from DTU, Berlin, and Basel on integrating SPSs and single-photon detectors on the AlGaAs platform.

Candidates should have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree. Additionally, the candidate should have a background on integrated optics and experience with nano-fabrication. Due to the mobility requirement of the European Commission for ITN projects, we can only accept PhD candidates that have not been working/living in Denmark for more than a total of 12 months within the 3 years prior to employment start. The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU.
