Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD scholarship in applied mathematics at Technical University of Munich. The funds for this fellowship are available for 4 years. This position is open until filled.

The successful candidate will join and participate in research and teaching activities.
Our research interests are in the area of statistical dependence modeling (vine-copula.org) and their application to challenging problems in engineering and life sciences. Current projects involve:
(1) Copula based flight safety analyses (CopFly) within TUM's International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) using non-linear state space models,
(2) Modeling time/space dependence structures using vine copulas,
(3) Development of efficient Bayesian methods involving vine copula based models.
The teaching includes for example the leading of exercise classes and seminars as well as help in the supervision of student theses. Since teaching in our Master programs is conducted in English, it is possible to satisfy these duties using excellent English communication skills. German language skills are however very useful.
Our requirements:
You have graduated with high success from a Master (or equivalent) program in statistics or mathematics. You have excellent communication skills in English or German. You are motivated by challenging questions in applied statistics and your solid computing skills include programming in C++ etc, parallel computing and statistical software like R.
We offer a full time position (13 TV-L) with 5 hours of teaching duties per week, which can be extended for maximal 4 years in a very active research group for copula-based modeling.
The Technical University of Munich aims to increase the number of women on its faculty, and therefore specifically invites applications from women. We like to point out that the application of qualified persons with disabilities are welcome.
