Seafood Safety PhD Science Scholarship at University of Technology Sydney

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in fisheries at University of Technology Sydney. This position is closed on September 30, 2019.

Species of marine microalgae can produce toxins that impact fisheries and aquaculture industries worldwide. As yet, we have limited information available regarding the genetic regulation and basis of harmful algal toxin production, especially concerning species that produce internationally significant toxins such as ciguatoxins, which cause substantial illness in Pacific Island nations. This project will determine markers related to the genetic basis of toxin production in marine dinoflagellates, particularly species of Gambierdiscus. This project will involve working closely with industry partners and team members to resolve a key scientific question.
