Postdoctoral Position in Noise Limiting Mechanisms in Inp Hemts

Chalmers University of Technology is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoc position in nanotechnology. The funding allows successful candidate to work for two years. Applicants should apply before October 30, 2019.

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience focuses on research, innovation and education within the fields of future electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. A close collaboration with Swedish and international partners within academia, industry and society enables scientific excellence and creates an innovative environment. In addition to the 200 researchers and PhD students, MC2 houses a cleanroom for micro- and nanofabrication with the latest equipment.

Information about the position

We offer a postdoc position in cryogenically cooled transistors for ultra-low noise amplifiers.

We have a long tradition in the InP HEMT device including several state of the art results. Still the noise of a transistor is several times the quantum noise level. By combining material physics, device design and microwave engineering, we have great hope to reduce the noise level in a cryogenic low-noise amplifier at microwave frequencies. Such circuits are used in quantum computing for qubit readout.

The postdoc position will be part of a research team at Chalmers together with an industrial partner, Low Noise Factory, which is the global market leader for cryogenic low-noise amplifiers for quantum computing. The postdoc position will be involved in an international collaboration with South Korea. The postdoc is also expected to collaborate with the quantum computer scientists at Chalmers where one of the largest development efforts in European quantum computing is starting up.

We are fabricating devices in a state of the art process for ultra-low noise transistors. We have very well equipped measurement labs and excellent collaboration with industry helping us to package and test the devices. The postdoc position offers possibilities to specialize in various areas, e.g. device physics, measurement and modelling, or microwave design.


A suitable background is a PhD in micro/nano electronics with a specialization towards microwave engineering. It is essential to have a strong inner driving force for pushing a project as well as excellent collaboration skills in a research team. This research is carried out in GigaHertz Centre (, a joint collaboration between Chalmers and the best microwave companies in the world.

The postdoc position is for one year with a possible prolongation for another year.
