PhD Scholarship Position in Graphene Terahertz Electronics

A new opening PhD position in wireless communication is available at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for five years in Sweden. The deadline for applying is September 23, 2019.

Information about the project

The Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience – MC2 is a unique research department in the areas of micro- and nanotechnology, housing more than 200 researchers and PhD students. At the terahertz and millimeter wave divsion, main research activities are on technologies with applications ranging from basic science to future wireless sensors and communication systems. Today, terahertz technology is an indispensable tool for space science, with the hope of gaining fundamental knowledge of the origin of our universe, and for atmospheric science, which is directly related to the environmental challenge and climate change effects. The project is part of the Graphene Flagship (https://graphene-flagship.eu), which represents a new form of joint, coordinated research on an unprecedented scale, forming Europe’s biggest ever research initiative.

Major responsibilities

Your research will be directed towards developing graphene based devices and circuits for use in future microwave and millimeter wave applications. The research also includes exploring new electronic device concepts based on 2D materials and nanofabrication techniques. The outcome of the research finds applications ranging from flexible electronics, sensors to wireless communication systems.

Your major responsibilities as a PhD student is to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers’ undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish after two years.
