PhD Scholarship in Turbulence Reconsidering The Richardson-kolmogorov Paradigm Towards A Robust Understanding of Turbulence

Technical University of Denmark, Denmark has an opening PhD position in mechanical engineering. Potential candidates should apply before September 30, 2019.

The section for Fluid Mechanics, Coastal and Maritime Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an ERC Starting Grant (project acronym: UniEqTURB) sponsored opening for a 3-year PhD position in the area of Experimental and Theoretical turbulence.

Within the scope of the project, the student will conduct high-end experiments in collaboration with international world-leading experts (with the possibility of a dual PhD-degree). The student will analyze the data in novel ways to test the validity of the existing theories of turbulence and together with the group members attempt to synthesize new theory based on the empirical results. The measurements will be conducted using the latest developments in optical flow diagnostics for turbulence measurements, including Particle Tracking/Image Velocimetry. The ERC grant sponsors two additional PhD students and a PostDoctoral fellow.

The PhD student will be responsible for The PhD student may also be involved in

Candidates may apply prior to obtaining their master’s degree but cannot begin before having received it.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
