Research Fellow at University of Michigan

A new postdoc position in public health is available at University of Michigan. The funding allows successful candidates to work for two years in the first instance. Applications will be evaluated immediately.

The UM School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences has a Research Fellow posiiton available. Postdoctoral fellows are supported by the Environmental Toxicology and Epidemiology Program (ETEP), a NIH T32 training grant program, which focuses on helping students become independent researchers in the areas of toxicology and epidemiology.Research specialties of faculty include genetic, epigenetic, cell signaling, metabolic and oxidative stress mechanisms of toxicity with respect to reproductive, developmental, neural and immune systems, as well as research on cancer, metabolic disorders, micro- and nano-senor development, exposure assessment, epidemiology, and data science.

Research fellows will design and conduct research in toxicology or epidemiology related to environmental health sciences.This includes generating, analysis and interpretation of environmental health data, preparation of manuscripts and other scholarly products.Research topics may be proposed by the fellow and should be aligned with interests of training program faculty.Areas of interest specifically included epigenetics, cell signaling, cancer research, human exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology, metabolic disorders and data science.

This position is for one year,a second year is possible with sufficient progress shown and availability of funding.Applicants are considered on a rolling basis.Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the training grant website to obtain more information https://sph.umich.edu/ehs/etep/.

- Research fellows will work under the mentorship of an ETEP faculty mentor to perform scholarly research with the ultimate goal of becoming an independent researcher.

- Participate in professional development opportunities, including an individual development program and assistance in organizing the annual Environmental Health Sciences Symposium held at the University of Michigan.

- Participate in the development of grants for future support, potentially with interdisciplinary collaboration with other researchers

Requiredqualifications include a PhD, MD, or comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution at the time or appointment; be a US citizen, a noncitizen national of the United States (e.g. born in outlying posessions of the USA), or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the USA (e.g., possess a current Permanent Resident card)

Desired qualifications are to have completed coursework in epidemiology, toxicology or an allied area;demonstrate scholarly excellence through prior academic work, publications and conference presentations;possess excellent communication skills; have strong interests in ETEP areas of toxicology, epidemiology and data science.
