The PhD student position is within the research group on automation at division of Systems and control. The research group focus on development of methods for control of cyber-physical systems that should be energy efficient, able to meet time-constraints and has to act according to given specifications in all situations. Methods based on artificial intelligence for processing sensor information and take decisions are very promising but are also hard to prove correct. The division has a good balance between applied research projects in close collaboration with industry and projects that mainly focus on basic research. Example of projects are Systematic Testing of Cyber-Physical Systems is a VR-financed strong research environment SyTeC (http://systematictesting.org/about/) and ViMCoR – Vision and machine learning for collaborative robotics that is in collaboration with AB Volvo and CHAIR (Chalmers AI Research Centre).
Major responsibilities
Your main responsibility as a PhD student is to pursue your own scientific studies and to develop your abilities and knowledge within the research fields covered by the project. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally at scientific conferences and in written journal articles. The position also includes certain departmental duties, typically in form of teaching, corresponding to about 20% of working hours.
Full-time temporary employment.The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
Qualifications
By the starting date, the applicant should have a master’s level degree of at least 240 higher education credits or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math or in a related discipline. A successful applicant should have a strong background in control, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, and/or algorithms and logics. A genuine interest and curiosity in the subject, excellent oral and written English communication skills are needed.
