Information about department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 270 employees from over 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor’s, Master’s and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.

This position is funded by the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and will be located in the Software Engineering division – one of the leading software engineering research groups in the world – in close collaboration with the companies connected to the Software Center (

The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers’ undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.

The research is concerned with developing solutions that support industrial, production-quality deployment of ML/DL components, specifically the challenges arising from the continuous process of collecting data, improving and retraining the model, validating the newest version of the model and then monitoring and logging to ensure that the model performs according to expectations and integrates well with the other software components as well as the data pipelines established in the software intensive system. As cyber physical systems typically are instantiated many times, one of the challenges that we intend to study is the combination of data and learnings from many instances of systems that operate in, potentially highly diverse, contexts. This position is concerned with studying these challenges and developing relevant solutions.
