PhD Scholarship in Wearable Healthcare Monitoring System

Technical University of Denmark, Denmark is inviting applicants to apply for a PhD position in mechanical engineering. The initial contract for this position is 3 years. Applicants should apply before July 05, 2019.

In the BioEngine group, Department of Health Technology at DTU we are currently seeking a candidate for a PhD position. The grand goal is to develop a smart, wearable healthcare monitoring system. In this project, the candidate will be involved in the design and development of advanced sensor materials capable of tracking and monitoring the biomechanical output parameters of patients (Beating, movement, swelling ect). The sensor device it self will be developed in close collaboration with the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering at DTU. Specifically, we plan to tap into the 3D printing core within the Department of Mechanical Engineering to custom design the sensors and the Department of Electrical Engineering to interface the sensor with an electrical interface, enabling us to better bridge the gap into the industry.

Responsibilities and tasks You will be involved in the development of advanced materials for human motion sensing applications. You will be responsible for the fabrication of sensor materials. The research also includes using 3D printing to generate customized and patient-specific sensors. You will also become engaged in development of electronics and undertaking of measurements to fine-tune the application portfolio of the sensor. Finally, you will be involved in dissemination activities, including guiding of bachelor and master students for theses and special courses. Candidates should have a two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree. A master degree in Material science, Chemistry, or related fields is preferred. It is highly desirable that you have experience in product development. Capable of building various experimental setups and interested in working with basic electronic circuits. Experienced with mechanical engineering and 3D printing of soft materials. The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
