Monash University is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a postdoctoral associate position in astronomy. The funding allows successful candidates to work for 5 years in the first instance. Applications are welcome before August 08, 2019.

A Research Fellow is sought to join the X-ray Optics group within the School of Physics and Astronomy at Monash University. The School has cultivated a focused research program in theoretical, experimental and applied x-ray optics over the last 15 years, most recently with the appointment of Dr Kaye Morgan, who will supervise this Research Fellow. The Monash research group, including Prof David Paganin and Dr Marcus Kitchen, collaborates with physicists, medical researchers and engineers locally and internationally. The research group is situated in the New Horizons Research Centre, across the road from the Australian Synchrotron. This synchrotron includes the Imaging and Medical Beamline (IMBL), and will soon house a Micro Computed Tomography beamline.
As the Research Fellow, you will become an integral part of the X-Ray Optics research group. You will have the opportunity to conduct x-ray imaging experiments at synchrotron and laboratory sources, analyse images and perform simulations, publish in high impact journals, and become a trusted advisor, able to help post-graduate students with questions relating to your field of research.
As the successful candidate, you will have a sound record of publication, excellent problem-solving capabilities, and outstanding planning and organisation skills. Strength in verbal and written communication, the ability to work well in a team, and proficiency in coding, theory and/or experimental x-ray imaging will also be advantageous. The ideal candidate will also hold a PhD in Optical Physics or a related research area.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs”.
