Research Fellow in High Energy Physics Lhcb Experiment

A new opening postdoctoral scholar position in high energy is available at Monash University, Australia. Applicants should apply before July 25, 2019.

Everyone needs a platform to launch a satisfying career. At Monash, we give you the space and support to take your career in all kinds of exciting new directions. You'll have access to quality research, infrastructure and learning facilities, opportunities to collaborate internationally, as well as the grants you'll need to publish your work. We're a university full of energetic and enthusiastic minds, driven to challenge what's expected, expand what we know, and learn from other inspiring, empowering thinkers.

The Research Fellow in High Energy Physics will be a part of the LHCb group at Monash University. You will contribute to data analysis of existing data as well as research and development for upgrade II of the LHCb experiment.

In the LHCb experiment, we are involved in the analysis of data taken during the first two runs of the LHC. The data analysis has focused on electroweak penguin decays and semileptonic decays. We are coordinating the software development for the user interface to distributed computing (Ganga). For Upgrade II of the LHCb experiment we will work on the introduction of machine learning in FPGAs to provide extensive pre-processing of the data before it enters the trigger for decision making.

You are highly organised, with excellent attention to detail, and are proficient with software tools required for research in particle physics. You will be given significant freedom to the choice of analysis topics with the expectation that you will make a significant impact within the collaboration. You have the opportunity to work closely with the phenomenology group at Monash to develop new analysis ideas.

The position will be based at the Clayton campus of Monash University and will involve significant amount of travel to CERN in Geneva for work with the LHCb collaboration, as well as travel to conferences or workshops at national and international destinations.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs”.
