Research Fellow in Drug Discovery Biology at Monash University

Monash University, Australia is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in molecular biology. Applications are welcome before July 12, 2019.

Everyone needs a platform to launch a satisfying career. At Monash, we give you the space and support to take your career in all kinds of exciting new directions. You'll have access to quality research, infrastructure and learning facilities, opportunities to collaborate internationally, as well as the grants you'll need to publish your work. We're a university full of energetic and enthusiastic minds, driven to challenge what's expected, expand what we know, and learn from other inspiring, empowering thinkers.

An exciting opportunity exists to join a dynamic research team within the Drug Discovery Biology theme at Monash University. The Cellular and Molecular Metabolism laboratory, headed by Professor Mark Febbraio is focused on identifying genes, proteins and pathways that are important in metabolic disease and obesity-related cancers, and then to develop pharmaceutical therapies that either activate or block these identified targets. The successful candidate will be part of innovative research using a broad range of techniques to achieve these aims.

In this position, you will be responsible for investigating various molecular mechanisms that play a role in the progression of diseases. Specifically, working using both in vitro and in vivo models of disease to determine the effects of tissue cross-talk between organs and what effect this has on colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma pathogenesis.

To be successful in this role you will ideally hold a PhD in an appropriate discipline and have extensive experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques. Demonstrated prior history planning and carrying out experiments using in vivo models is ideal. Sound knowledge of Cancer Biology and signalling pathways as well as the ability to work both independently and seamlessly within a larger team environment to carry out experiments in accordance with the aims of the project will be essential.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs”.
