Postdoc in Yeast Metabolic Engineering at Technical University of Denmark

Technical University of Denmark is delighted to offer a postdoctoral fellowship position in biochemistry. This position is available for 5 years. Applications should be sent before July 03, 2019.

Applications are invited for 2.5-year postdoctoral fellowship in the field of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. The position is available as soon as possible. The position will be a part of Horizon 2020 European international project SHIKIFACTORY100 ( SHIKIFACTORY100 aims towards the production of a universe of more than 100 high-added value compounds from the shikimate pathway through the development of an optimized shikimate chassis and implementation of novel biosynthetic routes exploring enzyme promiscuity to introduce new pathways for the production of known and newly designed compounds.

Microbial production of complex molecules is a well-established process for industrial compounds naturally produced by the hosts or for known compounds with fully characterized biosynthetic pathways. The shikimate pathway links metabolism of carbohydrates to biosynthesis of aromatic compounds. This pathway holds a very significant commercial interest, with many compounds associated with multi-million euros global market pools. The postdoctoral researcher will develop genetically engineered yeast for improving the shikimate chassis by using the modelling predictions and intracellular metabolome analysis. The candidate will use state-of-the-art methods for metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to create and improve yeast cell factories. Moreover, the candidate will optimize the fermentation process in controlled bioreactors and assist SHIKIFACTORY100 consortium partners with process scale-up. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The position is for 2,5 years.
