Assistant Professor with Tenure Track in Artificial Intelligence

Chalmers University of Technology has an opening professor position in computer science. This fellowship is last for four years and posible to extend. The deadline for applying is August 15, 2019.

Information about the department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 260 employees from over 30 countries and enrolls a number of PhD students from more than 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor’s, Master’s and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society. For more information about the department, see https://www.chalmers.se/cse/en

The Data Science and AI division is a growing division in the department. The main research areas of the division are algorithms, optimization, machine learning, AI, and different applications of data science. The division has a solid network of collaborators, both academic and industrial, within and outside of Gothenburg, the home of Chalmers. We provide many courses in these areas, and are the main contributors to the Data Science and AI Master's program at Chalmers as well as the Data Science Master's program at GU. The division also offers courses in mathematical modelling, optimization and related areas.

Closely connected to this position is the Chalmers CHAIR centre for AI research, which is a Chalmers effort to coordinate and strengthen AI at Chalmers, as well as WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program) which is a major national effort to ensure excellence of AI research in Sweden.

Research profile

We are particularly interested in candidates who work in central areas of modern AI/machine learning/data science or have an interdisciplinary orientation in areas where method development in AI/machine learning/data science is a core component. Examples of such areas are natural language processing, biology and health, but also other fields are possible. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence by a strong record of publications in premier venues of modern AI, machine learning, or data science, or in the top conferences and journals of their applied field.

Connections and willingness to engage with high impact application areas will be considered a major advantage. Cooperation with industrial partners are assumed to be an important part of the research.

Major responsibilities

Your primary duty as non-tenured assistant professor is to perform your own research, generally as a member of a research group. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large.

Full-time temporary employment for a maximum of four years with tenure track. Progress will be assessed after two years. You are expected to achieve associate professor expertise within four years – your position will then become permanent.

Together with the position we offer the opportunity to employ one PhD student in your area of choice.
