The Faculty of Arts invites applications for the position of

for a fixed term from 1 August 2019 to 31 July 2020.

At the Faculty of Arts, research focus areas in the discipline of Latin language and Roman literature include primary material written in Latin, the history of the Latin language and grammar, and Latin-language literature in the early modern period. The Faculty is seeking a philologist with broad-based knowledge who is experienced in providing basic instruction in Latin. The position is in the Department of Languages.

The field of teaching for the university lecturer of Latin language and Roman literature includes basic and intermediate courses according to the degree requirements (e.g., Basic Course in Latin, Advanced Course in Latin, Practicum in Latin, Catullus). In addition, the duties of the position include student supervision (personal study plans) as well as the supervision and assessment of theses . Duties requiring good cooperation skills include participating in the planning and development of teaching together with the other staff of the department, degree programmes and discipline. The appointee will conduct research in the field and contribute to its development.

Holders of university lectureships are required to possess an applicable doctoral degree, to have the ability to provide research-based teaching of high quality and to supervise theses.

When assessing the qualifications of applicants, attention shall be paid to academic qualifications and merits, such as publications and other research results of scientific value, as well as teaching experience, pedagogical skills, the ability to produce learning material and other teaching merits.

To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have good Finnish and English skills. The university lecturer gives teaching both in Finnish and English.

Monthly gross salary for a university lecturer varies between 3 300 - 4 500 euros depending on the appointee's qualifications and experience. There is a six-month trial period for the position.

Health care services and standard Finnish pension benefits are provided for the University employees.
