Research Assistant in Sensor Development for Lateral Flow Assay for Specific Bacterial Infections

The Nano Bio Integrated Systems group at DTU Bioengineering (NaBIS) is an interdisciplinary group specializing in application-driven research within the fields of biotechnology and environmental monitoring. The group's vision is to integrate micro- and nanoscience in lab-on-a-chip systems with the aim of developing novel technologies for biological analysis, medical diagnosis, treatment monitoring as well as environmental monitoring. The group currently consists of 12 postgraduate and senior members and 4 master students.

We offer a research assistant position for 25 month within the field of lateral flow assay development. The sensor will be used in order diagnose infection in wounds, including which bacteria are responsible and the concentration thereof. Responsibilities and tasks The position concerns the development of a paper-based biosensor for the detection and quantification of several strains of bacteria in serum. We are focusing on colorimetric detection, where the intensity of the light will give an indication of the concentration of the bacteria in the sample. The sensor will need to identify 3-6 different bacteria. A standalone device will scan the sensor and automatically record the presence or not of bacteria as well as report a concentration. The project is a collaborative effort between biologists, biomedical, nanotechnology, computer engineers, business developers and doctors. You will be responsible for developing the bioassay, including investigating binding efficiency, concentration limits and shelf life. You will be involved in the development of the sensor This includes, but is not limited to, increasing sensor sensitivity, optimising geometry and fabricationg sensor for field testing. You will be working in close collaboration with a nanotechnologist and a computer scientist.

Candidates should have a master degree in the field of Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent.
