Research Assistant in Multi-phase Lattice Materials with Liquid Actuation

University of Cambridge is offering postdoc position in mechanical engineering. Successful candidate will have funding to work and study for 36 months in UK. Applicants should apply before March 15, 2019.

A position exists, for a Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering, to work on multi-phase lattice materials with liquid actuation.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The role is to perform engineering research in the invention, measurement and finite element modelling of the engineering properties of multi-phase lattice materials. A wide range of materials can be made, and there is an opportunity to relate microstructure to mechanical properties. A research assistant with strong experimental skills in testing of engineering materials, and ideally modelling skills, is needed in order to invent, test and analyse new multi-phase lattices materials using a range of techniques. The task is to invent, test and analyse new bulk materials and surface coatings (‘surface lattices’) based upon two or more inter-penetrating lattices. The freedom to select the topology, constituent material and length scale of each lattice gives rise to an enormous scope of new materials.

The successful candidate must have (or be close to obtaining) a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. This role requires a mechanics engineering and research background with experimental expertise.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.

Please ensure that you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a publications list and a covering letter in the Upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application. Please submit your application by midnight on the closing date.

If you have any questions about this vacancy or the application process, please contact Ms Hilde Hambro-Fernandez email: (Tel +44 01223 748243).
