Postdoc Position in Single Molecule Biosensors at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoctoral position in organic chemistry. The funding allows successful candidate to work for two years. Applications are invited up to March 11, 2019.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London with Professor Joshua Edel and Dr Alex Ivanov to develop nanofluidic devices for use as single molecule biosensors. The projects are funded by BBSRC and/or the European Research Council. Funding is available for initially 1 year and can be extended further depending on progress and available funding.

- To take initiative in the planning of the research, in collaboration with the lead investigator

- To identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data - To collect and analyse data relevant to the project aims - To ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times - To maintain accurate and complete records of all findings - To travel, as required, for meetings with (potential) collaborators, and to attend conferences - To write regular (monthly) internal reports as well as more detailed quarterly reports and other ad hoc reports as requested by the principal investigator - To prepare material for presentation in oral and poster formats - To present findings to colleagues and at conferences - To draft publications and prepare them for submission to refereed journals To submit publications to refereed journals - To contribute to writing bids for research grants - To provide guidance to staff and students - To undertake instruction of PhD, MRes and project students as agreed with the principal investigator - To supervise practical work and advise students on techniques - To take responsibility for organising resources and effective decision making in support of research - To attend relevant workshops and conferences as necessary - To develop contacts and research collaborations within the College and the wider community - To promote the reputation of the groups, the Department and the College - PhD (or equivalent) in synthetic organic chemistry. Candidates who have not yet been awarded their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant (Level A) level

- Experience in physical chemistry - Experience in Raman spectroscopy - Experience in the preparation, purification, of nanoparticles - Experience in electrochemical cells - Experience in Synchrotron experiments - Experience in optical spectroscopy Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
