Postdoc Position at University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge is delighted to offer a postdoc position in molecular biology. The initial contract for this position is 3 years. Applications should be sent before March 11, 2019.

The Department of Paediatrics is a recognised international centre for research in child health and development. The department also has close links with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s) Women’s and Children’s Division with collaborative research opportunities in a number of paediatric sub-speciality areas. The Department of Paediatrics has close collaborative research links with a number of nationally and internationally based research groups.

This post will be based at the Stem Cell Institute at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. Applications are invited for the position of a full-time Research Associate in the laboratory of Professor David Rowitch to study effects of gene mutation astrocyte functions in the developing zebrafish retina. The role is part of the “Understanding Astrocyte Regional Heterogeneity” research group within the Wellcome Trust Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.

The main duties will encompass developing research objectives and proposals for own or joint research; conducting individual and collaborative research projects; writing up research work for presentation and publication and will include a wide range of techniques: histological analysis, gene manipulation preparation of novel explant culture substrates using the zebrafish system. Molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting, cloning and prior experience with zebrafish retinal electrophysiology is essential. Experience with chemistry and/or bioengineering would be advantageous.

Good communication and organisational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The post will require a flexible approach to working hours, accuracy, diligence, attention to detail, and conscientious working practices are essential.

You should have been awarded PhD in a relevant specialist subject. The position will be under the direct supervision of Professor David Rowitch, Head of Department of Paediatrics and Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
