The Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London is leading the bioengineering agenda both nationally and internationally, advancing the frontiers of our knowledge in the discipline's three main areas: 1. Biomedical Engineering: Developing devices, techniques and interventions for human health. 2. Biological Engineering: Solving problems related to the life sciences and their applications for health. 3. Biomimetics: Using the structures and functions of living organisms as models for the design and engineering of materials and machines. We are seeking to employ a researcher for an initial 12-month contract to work in the Imperial College Centre for Synthetic Biology in the research group of Dr Tom Ellis. The research associate will continue work developing tools for yeast synthetic biology focused towards engineering multi-cellular behaviours.

You must have a PhD ( or equivalent) in synthetic biology (or equivalent) for appointment at Research Associate level.

You will have previous experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals, and practical experience in yeast genome engineering, yeast Golden Gate assembly, synthetic transcription factors and engineered GPCR signalling. You will have: - PhD (or equivalent) in synthetic biology or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience. - Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals - Practical experience in a broad range of techniques including culturing and cloning of microbes, aseptic techniques, in vitro DNA methods - Knowledge of microbial synthetic biology, biological polymers - Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures - Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature - Ability to develop and apply new concepts - Creative approach to problem-solving - Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people - Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication - Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision - Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines - Advanced computer skills, including word-processing, spreadsheets and the Internet - Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative - Flexible attitude towards work - Discipline and regard for confidentiality and security at all times - Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the role You will be: - Computer literate with a good knowledge of different computer programs with experience in data presentation and statistical analyses. *Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 to 35,061 per annum.
