Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position in molecular biology at Imperial College London, UK. Applications should be sent before February 21, 2019.

Applications are welcomed for the post of a Research Associate in the Centre for Haematology, Division of Experimental Medicine, Department of Medicine. The post holder will work in the Cancer Cell Protein Metabolism group led by Dr Holger Auner, which focuses on aspects of protein and metabolic homeostasis in solid and haematopoietic cancer cells. The group is particularly interested in delineating the general and specific principles of the metabolic rewiring cancer cells undergo in response to nutrient restrictions in the tumour microenvironment and proteotoxic stress caused by protein degradation inhibitors.

This post is funded by a CRUK Award to validate a nutrient sensing kinase as a potential therapeutic target in multiple myeloma.

The post holder will employ genetic depletion strategies in combination with small molecule inhibitor-based approaches and integrate conventional cell and molecular biology analyses with innovative omics strategies using in vitro and in vivo approaches in collaboration with clinicians, biomathematicians, and medicinal chemists.

You will carry out research programmes in cancer cell protein metabolism and undertake project management tasks. In addition, you will be expected to submit publications to international scientific conferences and refereed journals.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Cell Biology/Cancer Metabolism/Molecular Pharmacology or a closely related discipline and have knowledge of cancer cell metabolism, practical experience within an academic research environment and/or publication in relevant and refereed journals, practical experience in a broad range of techniques (including human cancer cell culture, genetic manipulation (shRNA/CRISPR), small molecule inhibitors, real-time PCR, cloning, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, viability assays, data presentation and statistical analyses, imaging software.

The College is a proud signatory to the San-Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which means that in hiring and promotion decisions, we evaluate applicants on the quality of their work, not the journal impact factor where it is published. For more information, seehttps://www.imperial.ac.uk/research-and-innovation/about-imperial-research/research-evaluation/

The College believes that the use of animals in research is vital to improve human and animal health and welfare. Animals may only be used in research programmes where their use is shown to be necessary for developing new treatments and making medical advances. Imperial is committed to ensuring that, in cases where this research is deemed essential, all animals in the College's care are treated with full respect, and that all staff involved with this work show due consideration at every level.
