Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is offering postdoctoral researcher position in water resources. Potential candidates should apply before February 17, 2019.

We have an exciting opportunity for a talentedResearch Associate to work on the development of novel modelling methods for simulating the dynamics of and geoelectric response from saline intrusion in coastal aquifers.

You will work in collaboration with the Hydrological Modelling Group in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the Novel Reservoir Modelling and Simulation (NORMS) Group in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering along with members of the School of Natural & Built Environment, Queen's University Belfast (QUB). This position is part of a multi-component project (Field, Lab, Modelling) to develop an early warning system for saline intrusion into coastal abstraction wells using physical and geophysical information.

This will be primarily at Imperial College London, but will also include significant contact with QUB and visits to Northern Ireland, where the field and lab components of the work will take place. You will also be expected to publish papers in international refereed journals, and give presentations at relevant international conferences.

This is a fixed term appointment for until 31st March 2021.

You will be expected to conduct independent research in the area of saline intrusion modelling, using unstructured dynamic grid meshes, and its geo-electric response conditioned on field and data for application in coastal water resource management and to publicise the results in conference and journal papers.

You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in applied numerical and/or computational modelling in fluid mechanics or groundwater hydraulics, or a closely related discipline or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
