Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship position in mechanical engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. The funding allows successful candidates to work for 18 months in the first instance. The deadline for applying is March 17, 2019.

Health, natural resources, sustainable energy and materials are some of our lead words and our vision is "Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world". We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg. Information about the project
The Division of Applied Chemistry comprises about 90 researchers, including PhD students, who work on surface chemistry, polymers and catalysis.
The research carried out at Applied Chemistry focuses on energy, materials design, nanotechnology and catalysis. In recent years, activities related to exploit colloids/polymer interactions, in collaboration with industry, have gained momentum with a focus on materials derived from renewable resources, and on the development of environmentally friendly technology.
The research that will be carried out in this project aims at increasing the understanding of various processes, such as drying, through the development of a new tool which will allow the monitoring of the chemical state of self standing droplet, as function of time and space. This post-doctoral fellowship will therefore be part of a larger project composed of a team of chemists, surface chemists and NMR spectroscopists.
The project, called NMR-Lev, will be run in close collaboration with industrial partners from the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. The position duration is 18 months, with possiblity of extension.
Major responsibilities
The main aim of this postdoctoral project is to conduct the development of an acoustic levitation device to be intregrated in a high magnetic field environment, i.e. inside and NMR magnet. Miniaturization and precise control of the leviation will be the most challenging task. In parallel to this task, the team of the porejct will conduct development on NMR related research to be able to conduct, e.g. imaging on a single droplet
As a post-doc, you will be in charge of the experimental development of the device. This implies, the design and testing, as well as the development of the electroacoustic model to achieve the highest control over the droplet movement. This latter point will be central to the success of the project. In this activity, you are expected to interact with the industrial partners to maximize the implementation of the findings. You are also expected to enable proper dissimination of your findings within the scientific community.
Full-time temporary employment. The position duration is 18 months, with possiblity of extension
Qualifications
To qualify for the position a PhD in mechanical engineering is required. A PhD in physics with emphasis on ultrasonic devices is also conceivable. The candidate must be fluent in oral and written English.
