PhD Scholarship Position in Basic Medicine 4 Positions

A new opening PhD position in cell biology is available at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The initial contract for this position is 5 years. Applications are invited up to March 14, 2019.

The PhD-training in basic medicine is a five year postgraduate training in research and teaching at Sahlgrenska Academy. The program combines PhD-training, introductory courses in pedagogy and supervised teaching (generally in Swedish) in one of the following subjects: 1. biochemistry/cell biology/genetics, 2. pharmacology, 3. physiology, 4. microbiology/immunology, or 5. morphology/development biology. Morphology corresponds primarily to histology and anatomy.

It is primarily intended for medical students aiming at an academic career as scientists and teachers. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English. For more information about the research:

for third-cycle studiesif he or she:

1. has been awarded a second-cycle qualification 2. has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or 3. has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad are fulfilled if you have completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies and knowledge in the chosen PhD-subject equivalent to the courses given within the medical program.

In selecting between applicants who meet the general and specific entry requirements, their ability to benefit from third-cycle studies shall be taken into account. The assessment shall attach particular importance to documented qualifications for:

– specific knowledge and skills within the subject area and related research fields – experience of scientific theory and relevant research methodology – scientific analysis and presentation verified through thesis, degree project, scientific journals or the like. Time limited employment (temporary),5 years.Extent:100%. Location: Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology or Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment: as agreed.

Regulations for employment of doctoral students are given in SFS 1998:80.Only those who are admitted to third-cycle studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships.

The initial appointment may apply for no longer than one year. An appointment may be renewed for no more than two years at a time.

Salaries for doctoral students are regulated in a local agreement at the University.

Applicants that meet the general and specific entry requirements will be further evaluated by a committee that considers the ability to successfully complete the research and teaching education required by the program.
