Expression of Interest High-performance Fuzzing Finding More Bugs Faster PhD Scholarship

Monash University, Australia has an opening PhD position in mathematics. Applications are welcome before May 06, 2019.

We seek a highly motivated candidate to pursue an ARC-funded PhD projectworking on the development of highly efficient techniques for automated vulnerability detection in large software projects. As part of their studies, thePhD student will investigate scalable fuzzing techniques, publish in premier venues for software engineering and cyber security, and develop practical test generation tools that can detect real-world vulnerabilities in existing widely-used, security-critical C libraries. You will also assist supervisor Marcel Bhme in exploringdeep integrations of both heavy-weight, systematic, whitebox fuzzing techniques and light-weight, random, greybox fuzzing techniques. The efficient fuzzing of stateful, protocol-based applications as well as gui-based (Android) apps will also be undertaken as part of this project.

To be considered for this project, a strong mathematical, statistical, or data science-related background will be required. Some background in program analysis, system building, and testing is also preferable, along with some background in vulnerability detection (hackathon, bug bounties). You must be eligibleto undertake a PhD in the Faculty of IT at Monash University.
