Research Opening in Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore is inviting applicants to apply for a postdoc position in developmental biology. Applications will be evaluated on a continuous basis.

The School of Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University invite applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a Neural Circuits laboratory.

The laboratory aims to identify and characterize factors that direct the assembly and maintenance of neural circuits, and to understand how the organization of these circuits controls specific behaviors. These issues are examined through the analysis of circuits in the cerebellum important for coordination, movement and motor learning. We are seeking individuals with interests in neuroscience, molecular and developmental biology who wish to explore mechanisms underlying the function of cerebellar circuits using genetics, optogenetics imaging, and/or behavioral approaches.

This project employs cell type specificity with anatomical mapping between the deep cerebellum and extra-cerebellar targets involved in skilled and locomotor movement, and aims to provide the groundwork necessary for functional manipulations of these regions. Through these studies, we will define the anatomical, functional and molecular diversity within the deep cerebellum required for coordination of discrete and rhythmic motor activities. Our studies may reveal insight into how neurological disorders disrupt the execution of movement and pave the way for the identification of novel strategies for diagnosis and treatment.

Utilize and develop anatomical, genetics, imaging and behavioral assays to characterize circuits involved in motor behaviors and learning. Assess consequences of manipulating components of cerebellar circuitsin vivoandin vitrousing mice.

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology or the equivalent. Experience with biochemistry, imaging, molecular biology, murine genetics, and/or murine behavioral analysis.

Qualified candidates are invited to send their CV, a research statement and the names and contact information of three references toAsst Prof Albert Chen atalbert.chen@ntu.edu.sg.

Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted.
