Research Assistant Professor at University of Hong Kong

A new opening professor position in maxillofacial surgery is available at University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. The deadline to apply is February 12, 2019.

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Oral Cancer Research and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref: 493985), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree by research (Ph.D., D. Sc., or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines. They should have a strong academic background in advanced laboratory techniques including cell sorting and culture, and molecular biology procedures; have demonstrated experience in the analysis of Big Data; and be familiar with a variety of predictive models, software and programming tools used in machine learning and data analysis (e.g. SPSS, R, python, etc). They should also have excellent written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Those with relevant post-doctoral work experience and an excellent publication track record will be considered favorably.

The appointee will work on oral cancer projects involving both patients and animal models, with the aim to discover biomarkers which will aid in the early diagnosis and monitor treatment progress. He/She will perform advanced data analytics to identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in oral cancer prevalence and incidence in Hong Kong so as to set up a screening programme to identify those at risk of developing oral cancer. He/She is also expected to write scientific publications, assist in writing reports and grant applications, and perform other duties as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
