Research Assistant at University of Cambridge

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral position in life sciences at University of Cambridge, UK. The deadline to apply is March 03, 2019.

The ALBORADA Drug Discovery Institute (ADDI) at Cambridge, part of the University of Cambridge CIMR Division of Translational Medicine (http://cambridge-ddi.alzheimersresearchuk.org/), is seeking a research assistant with knowledge of small molecule compound screening to join a large dynamic team of scientists. The ADDI forms part of the Alzheimer’s Research UK funded Drug Discovery Alliance and prosecutes drug discovery projects from target to in vivo proof of concept and beyond for novel targets in the neurodegeneration therapeutic area.

The biology graduate will join our team responsible for assay development as well as developing and running both cellular and biochemical screens on libraries of up to 150K compounds. This is a laboratory based-position providing training in compound screening and also an opportunity to be involved with protein purification, bacterial work, DNA preparation and tissue culture. The successful candidate will also provide broader technical support to the biology group. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cutting-edge drug discovery team focusing on the diseases that cause dementia and to develop a range of valuable laboratory techniques.

The successful candidate will hold a BSc or equivalent in a Life Science or related subject. Applicants should have good team-working, organisational and communication skills and will be expected to have some lab-based experience, for example gained during an undergraduate project or a sandwich-year in industry and so have a basic understanding of biology research techniques.

Working with other biologists as well as chemists and reporting to the Screening Team Leader, this opportunity provides training and development. Positions are available to start immediately, or alternatively after the current academic year is complete.

Specific enquiries about the post may be addressed to Dr. James Duce (jad205@cam.ac.uk).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2020 in the first instance.

The closing date is 3 March 2019, with interviews to be confirmed.

Please ensure that you upload a covering letter and CV in the Upload section of the online application. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.

Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.
