Research Assistant / Associate at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in computer science. Applications are welcome before February 17, 2019.

Applications are invited to the post of Research Assistant or Associate in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the School of Public Health at Imperial College, London.

In 2016 the WHO identified 21 countries which could realistically eliminate malaria by 2020. Monitoring progress towards this goal requires tracking ongoing transmission from case report data.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with expertise in inhomogeneous point processes and Hawkes processes to develop tools to map the basic reproductive number (R0) in low malaria transmission settings. The ideal candidate will have worked previously with Hawkes processes (or similar approaches) and have experience programming statistical tools from scratch.

- Parameterisations of Hawkes processes to map endogenous and exogenous drivers of malaria transmission.

- Space time triggering Kernels.

- Efficient implementations in TensorFlow.

The post holder will work with partners at Oxford (Malaria Atlas Project) to deliver outputs directly to endemic countries to support programmatic decisions.

Applicants should have an MSc (for appointment to Research Assistant) or PhD (for appointment to Research Associate) or equivalent in one of the following areas: statistics, mathematics, machine learning, economics, computer science or a similarly quantitative discipline. You will have Research experience in Hawkes processes and in machine learning.

This post is full time and fixed term until 30 September 2021 and will be based at the St Mary's Campus, Paddington. Imperial College is supportive of flexible working. The College is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post, with suitably qualified people, subject to operational requirements.
