Postdoctoral Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

Imperial College London is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening postdoctoral associate position in cell biology. The deadline for applying is February 24, 2019.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral Research Associate in the Section of Virology within the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London.

You will join a leading research group headed by Professor CRM Bangham, carrying out research on the cellular immune response, virology and cell biology of infection with the human T-cell leukaemia virus type, HTLV-1.

The new project is a collaboration with Prof. M. Katan, University College London; the available position in Imperial is funded by grants from the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust. The aim of the project is to investigate the acquisition and impact of mutations in the phospholipase C-gamma 1 (PLCg1) gene in individuals infected with HTLV-1: these mutations can lead to malignant transformation of the infected T-cell, resulting in the devastating condition called adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL). Individuals with expertise in molecular techniques and T-cell biology are particularly encouraged to apply.

You will learn and carry out targeted gene editing of primary human T-lymphocyte clones by transfection of CRISPR/Cas9 ribonucleoprotein, using a protocol that is in use in this laboratory. You will investigate the impact of these mutations on the growth, gene expression and function of T lymphocytes in vitro.

You must have a PhD or equivalent in virology, immunology or a closely related discipline. Successful research experience in HTLV-1 infection or a similar field, including publications in reputable journals, is essential.

The post is available for eighteen months, to start as soon as possible. The contract is subject to the normal terms and conditions of employment in Imperial College.
