Postdoctoral Position in Food and Nutrition Wholegrain Foods 4 Health

Chalmers University of Technology has an opening postdoctoral scholar position in nutrition science. The funds for this position are available for three years. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before February 15, 2019.

The Department of Biology and Biological Engineering was founded January 1 2015, and started off with high ambitions. The aim was to grow and become a leading center of innovation by combining the latest research in life sciences with biochemistry. And the department got off to flying start. In its first year, the numbers for publication, citation and external funding have been excellent.

The department consists of four divisions, each conducting outstanding research in the areas of industrial biotechnology, systems biology, chemical biology and food science. The overall goal is to help build a sustainable society and improve human health. Nearly 200 people from 20 countries are currently working at the department. Whole grain intake has consistenly been associated with reduced risk of major chronical diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and colorectal cancer in observational studies. Although there is still a need to get a better understaning of the underlying mechanisms for the potivie health effects of whole grain foods, actions to translate what we currently know from research into new healthy foods and public health activities that leads to increased consumption is needed. In a project funded by VINNOVA, 12 parnters from academia, NGOs, industry and regions will establish a private public partnership that will promote research, innovation and communication to increase whole grain consumption for improved public health.

Major responsibilities

- Co-ordinate the establishment of a Swedish Whole Grain Partnership

- Gather and dissiminate scientific results in a way that is adapted to different stakeholders

- Write reports and make presentations

- Conduct research in ongoing projects on health effects of whole grain foods for personalized health

- Write and publish scientific articles

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master’s levels as well as supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summar

Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to one years.


- Ability to collaborate and interact with other stakeholders as well as with other researchers

- Documented experience from scientific dissimination towards different stakeholders

- Documented experience from co-ordination of multistakeholder activities

- Expereince and knolwedge from research on the helath effects of carbohydrate-rich foods

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
